Details

A 36-inch board covered in charcuterie, cheese and fruit is one of the best ways to anchor a table for a crowd, and this kiln-fired ash plank does it with something to spare. The wood is thermal ash, roasted until it turns a deep, chocolatey brown throughout the grain. Personalized with your family name in one of three laser-etched fonts, it reads more like a family heirloom than a serving piece.

Three font options let you match the tone you want: Copperplate for something bold and classic, Edwardian for an elegant script or Willow for a looser handwritten look. An optional grapes icon sits alongside the name. Each board is made in the USA and treated with food-safe butcher block oil after kiln-firing. The deep char gives the wood a faint scent of woodsmoke, which fades with use.

Best For

  • Hosting a wine night where the spread needs room to breathe and the board itself is worth remarking on
  • Giving as a wedding or housewarming gift that arrives already personalized with the recipient’s family name
  • Keeping on a kitchen island between gatherings where it holds its own as a display piece
  • Replacing a board that’s been outgrown by the size of the crowd you typically host

Features

  • Kiln-roasting colors the wood all the way through: Unlike boards with a surface stain or finish, this thermal ash process chars the wood from the inside out. That means scratches and knife marks won't reveal pale wood underneath — the dark chocolate tone stays consistent over years of use.
  • Three laser-etched font options — Copperplate (bold, block serif), Edwardian (flowing formal script) and Willow (loose, casual cursive) — with the option to add or omit a grapes icon alongside the text. Font samples shown in product images.
  • Personalization is included in the price — no separate engraving fee.
  • Allow 2–3 weeks for production. Each board is made to order; plan accordingly if purchasing as a gift.
  • At 36” long and 10” wide, the board has enough surface area to spread a full charcuterie arrangement for a group without crowding.
  • Finished with a chemical-free, all-natural butcher block oil after roasting. Any oily residue on arrival is the oil and dark wood combined — not a defect.
  • Natural wood grain, shade and pattern will vary board to board. No two are identical.
  • Hand wash only; periodic re-oiling required to prevent cracking. Not dishwasher safe.

Pairs Well With

  • Food-safe mineral oil for routine board maintenance — IWA sells it separately, and the care instructions recommend oiling the board periodically to extend its life.

Specs & Resources

Brand: IWA

Size: 36w x 10d x 1h (in)

Care Instructions
After use, the cutting board should be cleaned with hot, mild soapy water. It should not be soaked in water, because this may cause the board to crack and warp. Periodically, the board should be oiled with a food-safe mineral oil to keep it from cracking. Make sure the board is completely clean and dry before oiling, and use a clean soft cloth or paper towel to apply. Let it soak in, then wipe off the excess.

FAQs

Is this board food safe, and what finish is used on it?

A: Yes, the board is completely food safe. No chemicals are used at any stage of production. Each board is made from thermal ash that is roasted in a kiln until it reaches a rich, chocolatey-brown color. After roasting, it is treated with an all-natural, chemical-free butcher block oil that conditions the wood and helps prevent cracking. Any dark residue you may notice is simply the oil combining with the charred wood — not a coating or sealant.

What personalization options are available, and what does the engraving look like?

A: You can personalize the board with any text — typically a family name — and choose from 3 laser-etched fonts: Copperplate (bold block letters), Edwardian (formal flowing script) and Willow (loose, handwritten-style script). You can also add a grapes icon alongside the text or opt for no icon. The engraving is burned directly into the wood surface for a permanent, deeply visible result.

How do you clean and maintain this board?

A: After each use, wash the board with hot, mild soapy water — do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher, as prolonged water exposure can cause cracking and warping. Periodically re-oil the board with a food-safe mineral oil to keep the wood conditioned. Make sure the board is fully clean and dry before oiling, apply with a soft cloth or paper towel, let it soak in and wipe away the excess.

How long does it take to receive this board after ordering?

A: Because each board is made to order and personalized, the typical processing time is 2–3 weeks. Plan accordingly if you are ordering for a specific occasion such as a wedding, housewarming or holiday.

Can this board be returned or exchanged?

A: No — sales of personalized items are final and cannot be returned. Double-check your name spelling and font selection before completing your order.

Will my board look exactly like the photos?

A: Not necessarily, and that is expected. Wood is a natural material, so the color, shade and grain pattern of every board will vary. The photography used on the product page was taken under bright lighting, so your board may appear darker in person. The kiln-roasting process also means each piece has its own character — and the board may carry a mild scent of woodsmoke or tobacco from the charring process, which fades over time.

Ratings & Reviews

Impressive but Likely not Food Safe

The board (ash plank) is beautiful but I agree with several other reviewers that the stain is so dark that the name/personalization cannot be read well. In addition the stain rubs off quite a bit when you wipe the board down prior to and between each use which leads me to believe that the board was either not sealed properly or is not actually food safe. Unfortunately not something I would purchase again.

I ordered this board for our wedding. It was perfect. It's beautiful and the carved name was a great touch for our celebration. This is definitely an heirloom piece and, with care, will last generations.

great service!!!!

Perfect Christmas Gift

I ordered and received a 36 inch ash plank serving board. Placing the order was very easy and the website was easy to navigate. The Customer Service Department was always very helpful and polite. The quality of the product seems to be of the highest standard.

The board itself is very dark and the inscription is black and difficult to see. I would recommend offering silver or gold inscriptions.

Other than that I believe this Christmas gift will be a huge hit to the recipient.

Very disappointing…

I purchased this as a gift for a friend’s wedding and was so excited when I received it. That changed quickly when I pulled it out of the box. It could be beautiful, but it’s very hard to see the monogram and unfortunately, it looks like I bought her a slab of wood! (It’s been the family joke.) When I spoke with customer service and I told them that the monogram is very hard to read and doesn’t match the photo online or in the catalog, they told me that it was because they use really bright lights for their photographs. Who uses that kind of lighting for a gathering? I wouldn’t purchase this again.
