Laguiole Steak Knives Stainless Steel 2.5mm #17315
When the dinner deserves more than whatever is at the back of the cutlery drawer, this set from Jean Dubost belongs on the table. Hand-made in France, the six knives arrive nested in a natural wood gift box with an authenticity certificate tucked inside, so the presentation does its own work before anyone picks up a knife. The 2.5mm stainless steel blades are noticeably sturdier and sharper than the thinner 1.5mm Laguiole versions, and the all-stainless handles keep their polished look through regular use and the dishwasher.
Best For
- Setting a dinner table for six where the cutlery needs to hold its own against good china
- Gifting a host couple something that will still be in the kitchen drawer two decades from now
- Replacing a mismatched steak knife set before a holiday dinner or dinner party
- Hosting a sit-down dinner and wanting to run everything through the dishwasher without a second thought
- 2.5mm blade thickness: Noticeably heavier and sturdier than the 1.5mm Laguiole variant. The thicker spine holds a sharper edge through repeated use and has more resistance to flex under pressure.
- AISI 420 stainless steel handle and blade: Both components are the same material, so there is no dissimilar metal joint at the bolster and no risk of the handle discoloring or deteriorating differently than the blade over time.
- Polished stainless steel handles follow the classic Laguiole curved silhouette with a decorative bolster and three-rivet detail, consistent across all six pieces.
- “Laguiole” is etched along each blade with Jean Dubost’s name engraved at the bolster.
- Dishwasher safe.
- Set of 6 seats a full dinner table.
- Ships in a hinged beechwood gift box with a Jean Dubost authenticity certificate affixed inside the lid. No additional gift wrapping needed.

What These Specs Mean
- AISI 420 Stainless-Steel: A high-carbon steel grade known for its ability to take and hold a sharp edge, making it a common choice for cutlery that needs to stay sharp through repeated use.
What exactly comes in this set, and how is it packaged?
A: The set includes 6 Laguiole steak knives with fully stainless steel handles and 2.5mm AISI 420 stainless steel blades, all nested in a wood gift box with a brass-toned clasp. The box arrives ready to give — no additional wrapping needed. The overall set measures 9 inches wide by 1 inch deep and weighs 1.9 lbs.
Why does the 2.5mm blade matter — and how is it different from other Laguiole sets?
A: The 2.5mm blade spine is noticeably thicker than the 1.5mm blades found on many Laguiole sets, which translates directly to a sturdier, sharper, and more durable edge that holds up through repeated use. If you’ve handled a thinner Laguiole and found it flexed under pressure, this set addresses that. The difference is something you feel on the first cut.
Are these knives dishwasher safe?
A: Yes. The all-stainless construction — AISI 420 stainless steel blades and polished stainless handles — makes the entire set dishwasher safe. There are no wood, horn or resin handle components that could warp or crack in the dishwasher, which is a practical advantage over Laguiole sets with natural handle materials.
Are these genuinely made in France, or just branded as Laguiole?
A: These are hand-made in France by Jean Dubost, a cutlery house founded in 1920 by Pierre Dubost in the Thiers region — the historic center of French knife-making. Each box includes an Authenticity Certificate from Jean Dubost confirming French origin. The Laguiole name is not protected by trademark, so “Laguiole”-labeled knives made outside France are common; this set is not one of them.
Does the all-stainless look work on a formally set dinner table, or does it read as utilitarian?
A: The handles are fully polished stainless steel with Laguiole’s signature sculpted bolster and spine detail — the same silhouette as their horn and wood-handle sets, just in a single cohesive metal finish. The result is clean and uniform, pairing well with both modern and classic table settings. The mirrored polish catches light in a way that feels considered rather than industrial.
Is this an appropriate wedding or hostess gift, and does the presentation hold up?
A: The set is well-suited for a wedding, housewarming or hostess gift. The wood box has a hinged lid, brass-toned hardware and an Authenticity Certificate inside — it presents as something curated, not just boxed up. At 6 knives for a complete dinner party table, it’s a practical quantity that a host will actually use rather than store away.

Stunning
I was looking to replace my steak knives that were getting old and shabby, and I love my Laguiole corkscrew - the quality is impressive - so I was excited to learn they made knives as well. The box is great for storing them in between use and making sure we get them all washed and put away - no stray knives getting lost. I'd highly recommend these for Laguiole enthusiasts.
