Details

A under-counter dual-zone cooler sized for real use — not just display — the Loft 400 holds up to 46 Bordeaux bottles across two independently controlled temperature ranges, with the upper zone running 41–54°F for whites and sparkling and the lower holding 54–66°F for reds. Front-vented and reversible-hinged, it drops cleanly into a built-in cutout or stands alone without modification, which makes it a practical choice for a dining room remodel, a finished basement bar or a second home where a full-height cabinet would be out of scale. The seamless stainless steel door with fingerprint-proof coating and double-pane tinted tempered glass looks considered rather than utilitarian — the kind of fit that holds up alongside serious cabinetry.

The rolling metal plate shelves are worth noting specifically: they accommodate standard Bordeaux racking at full capacity but reconfigure to accept wider Burgundy bottles, so your Chambolle or Côte de Nuits isn’t getting squeezed into a shelf it was never designed for. Interior LED lighting and a blue LED display panel keep both zone temperatures readable at a glance. A charcoal air filter handles ambient odors, and the keyed security lock adds a practical layer of access control if the unit is in a shared or semi-public space.

Best For

  • Serving whites and reds from a single cabinet the same evening — upper zone chilled for Burgundy or Champagne, lower zone at red-service temp simultaneously
  • Built-in installation under a dining room island or bar counter where depth and venting clearance matter
  • A second home or apartment where a 46-bottle rotating selection covers most situations without requiring a dedicated cellar room
  • Holding a mix of Bordeaux and Burgundy-format bottles when shelf flexibility is a real constraint

Configuration

Placement requirements: 60-85F ambient temperature. If the ambient temperature is outside this range, the performance of the unit will be affected.

Size: 23 3/4w x 25d (with handle) 22 1/2d (without handle) x 34 1/4h (in)

Shelving: 6 pull-out shelves (5 rolling)

Quiet Mode The wine cooler can be put into "quiet mode", which reduces the fan speed by 20-25% and reduces the amount of noise produced by the fans, by pressing and holding the light button (while the display panel is locked from not being touched for 15 seconds) for about 3-5 seconds. The C/F indicator will flash when the unit is in "quiet mode."

Features

  • Bottle capacity and format compatibility: Rated at 46 Bordeaux-size bottles. The rolling plate shelves are sized to accept wider Burgundy bottles, but total capacity will be reduced when mixing formats — worth accounting for if your cellar runs heavy on Burgundy or Pinot Noir.
  • Zone temperature constraint: The upper (white) zone must always be set at least 4°F colder than the lower (red) zone. This is a hardware limitation to keep in mind when dialing in both zones simultaneously.
  • Front-vented for true built-in installation: All exhaust exits through the front grille, so the unit can be recessed flush into cabinetry with no side or rear clearance required. Works equally well freestanding.
  • Shelf configuration: 6 pull-out shelves total (5 rolling), using low-profile metal plate construction rather than wire. Plates hold bottles more securely on the roll-out and allow better stacking density than open-wire alternatives.
  • Electrical requirement: 115V / 60Hz on a dedicated 15-amp circuit. Plan for a separate circuit if installing in a finished kitchen, wet bar or cabinet run that is already loaded.
  • Warranty breakdown: 1-year coverage on parts and labor; 5 years on the compressor specifically — the component most likely to drive a costly repair call.
  • Security door lock with keys included — useful in shared spaces or second homes
  • Temperature display toggles between °F and °C

FAQs

What are the actual temperature ranges for each zone, and can they be set independently?

A: Yes, the two zones are fully independent. The upper zone is dedicated to white and sparkling wines and can be set between 41°F and 54°F. The lower zone is for red wines and can be set between 54°F and 66°F. The one constraint: the upper zone must be set at least 4°F colder than the lower zone at all times. Both zones display on a blue LED panel inside the unit, and you can toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius readouts.

Can the Loft 400 be installed as a built-in under a counter, or does it need to be freestanding?

A: It supports both. The unit is front-vented, which means it can be recessed into cabinetry or installed under a counter without any rear or side clearance requirements. It also works equally well as a freestanding unit. The door has reversible hinges, so you can configure the swing direction to suit your layout. Dimensions are 23¾" wide x 22½" deep x 34¼" tall (not including the 2½" door handle depth).

The listing says 46 bottles — is that realistic for Burgundy or larger-format bottles?

A: The 46-bottle capacity is rated for standard Bordeaux-size bottles. The shelves are specifically designed to accommodate Burgundy-size bottles, but switching to Burgundy format will reduce the total count. If your collection skews toward wider-shouldered Burgundy, Rhône or New World bottles, plan on a meaningfully lower number than 46. The rolling metal plate shelves do give you flexibility to reconfigure spacing, which helps when mixing bottle shapes.

What are the electrical requirements, and does it need a dedicated circuit?

A: The Loft 400 runs on 115V / 60Hz and requires a dedicated 15-amp circuit. It cannot share a circuit with other appliances. If you’re planning a built-in installation in a kitchen renovation or bar area, confirm a dedicated outlet is part of the rough-in before the unit arrives. The unit uses an R600a compressor, which is energy-efficient and CEC and DOE energy compliant.

What does the warranty actually cover, and for how long?

A: The Loft 400 carries a 1-year warranty covering parts and labor, plus a 5-year warranty specifically on the compressor. The compressor is typically the most expensive component to replace in a wine cooler, so the extended 5-year coverage on that part is the more meaningful protection. Parts and labor coverage is limited to the first year.

What ambient temperature range does the room need to be in for the unit to function properly?

A: The Loft 400 is rated to perform correctly when the surrounding ambient temperature stays between 60°F and 85°F. If you’re placing the unit in an unconditioned space — a garage, unfinished basement or seasonal home — and temperatures regularly fall outside that range, performance will be affected and the unit may not hold target temperatures reliably. For a finished dining room, kitchen or climate-controlled basement, it will operate as specified.

Great Unit

Vine Hound| 1/24/2017 1:47 pm

I am very pleased with this unit, which I purchased to replace an older, noisy unit. This unit is quiet, looks smart, and is effectively designed to maximize the number of bottles it can hold. Highly recommended.

Great choice

Both cabernet and chardonnay shape bottles fit easily. The shelves slide in and out readily. Runs with very little noise. Interior light is ample. Directions are easy to follow.
Collz down to set temperature quickly and holds that with no problem.

Wine Cooler Review

I am happy with this wine refrigerator. It is quiet and maintains temperature. The shelves have more flexibility for varied bottle sizes than the previous wine refrigerator I had.

Well built unit

Bo| 12/16/2018 6:53 am

Excellent quality unit for beneath the counter or built in placement, the venting is to the front to avoid overheating of the refrigeration motor. The shelves roll easily and support the weight well. No negatives except that the instruction do not explain or show that you need to pull back the door seal to see the screws to allow attachment of the handle shipped inside the unit. But a call to IWA quickly helped me accomplish the last bit of assemble. Very satisfied.

Excellent product and excellent value!

We are extremely pleased with this unit. Looks elegant and is the perfect cooler for this capacity. Instructions need to be revised, though, as some information is either missing or it is difficult to understand.
