Le Cache Contemp Credenza Classic #879
Details
When a collection outgrows a cooler but the room won't accommodate a full-depth cabinet, the Le Cache Contemporary Credenza Classic is worth a serious look. At just 23 inches deep and 38½ inches tall, it sits at credenza height and holds 115 bottles behind gently arched, double-pane tinted glass doors in a rich Cherry finish that reads as furniture rather than appliance. The CellarPro cooling unit manages both temperature and humidity digitally — the distinction that separates a wine cabinet from a refrigerator when long-term aging is the goal.
The single-deep, all-wood interlock racking holds 93 bottles in individual slots sized for oversized formats, with bulk space for roughly 22 more. Sealed seams and foil-backed insulation keep the interior thermally stable, while the rear-vent exhaust design means placement against a wall is possible with just 3–4 inches of clearance. The stainless bar pulls and keyed locks are minor details that matter when the cabinet is in a shared living space.
Best For
- Fitting a properly cooled 100+ bottle collection into a dining room, study or sitting room where a 24-inch-deep cabinet won't work
- Aging structured reds — Bordeaux, Napa Cabernet, Northern Rhône — that require stable humidity as much as consistent temperature
- A dining room or second-home remodel where storage needs to integrate visually with wood millwork and furniture
- Moving a collection off a kitchen cooler or closet shelf and into a unit with real humidity management and UV protection
Features
- Three CellarPro cooling unit options: The 1800QTL-ECX (2.4A running / 14.2A startup), 1800QT-ECX (2.9A / 20.1A) and 1800XT-ECX (3.0A / 20.1A) are available to match your ambient room conditions. All are US-made, rear-vented and require only 3–4 inches of wall clearance, making placement in finished living spaces practical.
- Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation: This closed-cell foam delivers a higher R-value per inch than standard urethane, which is meaningful in a 23-inch-deep cabinet where wall thickness directly competes with interior bottle space.
- Active humidity management with alarms: Unlike wine coolers that only regulate temperature, this cabinet monitors and adjusts humidity, then triggers audible and visual alerts when either metric drifts out of range. Relevant for long-term cork integrity on aged Bordeaux and Burgundy.
- All-wood interlock racks with 3.8-inch slots: Fits standard 750ml bottles as well as oversized formats. The 93 racked slots accommodate individual bottle retrieval; the additional bulk space handles approximately 22 bottles stacked, useful for case storage of current-drinking wines.
- Single-deep, 23-inch depth: At 73 inches wide and only 23 inches deep, this unit fits against most dining room or living room walls without projecting further than standard furniture. The flat top surface is load-bearing and usable as a serving surface.
- Stainless bar pulls with keyed security locks on all three hardwood doors
- Double-pane tinted glass on all door panels blocks UV without opaque doors
- Low-heat interior LED lighting, Energy-Saver and Quick-Chill operating modes and an optional bottle probe for direct bottle-temperature measurement
- Warranty coverage: 5 years on the cooling system and 2 years on the cabinet, with an optional extended warranty available at purchase.
Pairs Well With
- The optional bottle probe accessory, which measures actual wine temperature rather than ambient cabinet air — useful when precise aging conditions matter for older vintages.

What These Specs Mean
- Running vs. Startup Amps: Compressors draw substantially more current at startup than during normal operation, so the dedicated circuit must be sized for the startup surge rather than the running load alone.
- Cooling Unit Options (QTL / QT / XT): Three CellarPro 1800-series models are available at different performance tiers; the correct choice depends on the ambient temperature of the installation space and the cabinet’s calculated thermal load.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.
FAQs
Is this cabinet freestanding only, or can it be recessed into cabinetry?
A: The #879 is a freestanding unit with a rear-vent exhaust that requires 3–4 inches of clearance behind the cabinet. It cannot be fully recessed into a built-in enclosure without ensuring that rear clearance for exhaust airflow. Plan placement accordingly — against a wall with adequate setback, or in a furniture arrangement that naturally provides that gap.
What is the real-world bottle capacity, and will it fit larger Bordeaux or Burgundy bottles?
A: Total capacity is 115 bottles: 93 racked slots sized at 3.8-inch openings (which accommodates standard Bordeaux, Burgundy and most oversized bottles) and approximately 22 bottles in bulk stacked storage. The universal all-wood interlock racking is designed to accept irregular bottle shapes, so larger-format producers from Napa or the Rhône should rack without issue.
How quiet is the CellarPro cooling unit, and is it suitable for a dining room or living space?
A: The cabinet ships with one of three CellarPro 1800-ECX series cooling units (QTL, QT or XT depending on configuration), which Le Cache describes as their most advanced and quietest units. The QTL variant draws only 2.4 running amps — the lowest of the three — indicating a smaller, quieter compressor. Sound performance data is available via the product's Cooling Unit Sound Performance guide for direct comparison.
What are the electrical requirements, and does it need a dedicated circuit?
A: The unit runs on standard 115V AC / 60 Hz power. Startup (inrush) amps vary by cooling unit: the CellarPro 1800QTL-ECX peaks at 14.2 amps at startup, while the QT and XT units reach 20.1 amps. Given the startup draw on the QT and XT variants, a dedicated 20-amp circuit is worth considering to avoid tripping a shared breaker during compressor startup.
Does this cabinet actively manage humidity, or does it just control temperature?
A: It manages both. The CellarPro unit includes adjustable humidity control — a meaningful distinction from standard wine coolers and refrigerators, which only regulate temperature and allow humidity to drop to levels that can dry out corks over time. This cabinet is purpose-built for long-term aging, not short-term chilling.
What does the warranty cover and for how long?
A: The warranty is split by component: 5 years on the CellarPro cooling system and 2 years on the entire cabinet (woodwork, hardware and assembly). An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want longer coverage beyond the standard terms.

Looks Great, Holds Pinot Bottles

I was quite pleased when my credenza arrived. My previous wine cabinet claimed to hold way more wine bottles than it could. I collect a lot of Pinot Noir and those bottles tend to be wide at the end. As a result I would need to jam bottles in to try and get them to fit. Not so with my La Cache! Pinot's fit in with ease.
