When a collection has grown beyond a few hundred bottles and long-term aging is the actual goal, storage conditions matter in ways that a refrigerator or basic cooler cannot meet. The 5200 holds 622 bottles — 544 in individual all-wood racked slots and roughly 78 in bulk — and maintains both temperature and humidity through a CellarPro cooling unit that sits at the top of Le Cache’s lineup for efficiency and low noise output. Its clean contemporary lines, cherry veneer exterior and double-pane tinted glass doors integrate naturally into a dining room, a finished basement or a dedicated tasting space without requiring any built-in work.

Best For

  • Housing a 400–600 bottle collection of Bordeaux, Napa Cabernet or Rhône that needs consistent cellar conditions for multi-year aging
  • Placing flush against a finished wall without clearance cutouts, using SB/0™ flush-wall technology and top-vent exhaust
  • Collections that include larger-format or non-standard bottles, which fit comfortably in the universal 3.8-inch racked slots
  • Outfitting a renovation or second home where a freestanding unit needs to hold its own aesthetically and thermally without a dedicated cellar room
  • SB/0™ zero-clearance placement: The top-vent exhaust design allows the cabinet to sit flush against a wall with no rear or side clearance required — a practical advantage when fitting a unit this size into a finished room or alcove.
  • 622-bottle capacity with double-deep racking: 544 slots at 3.8-inch spacing handle standard Bordeaux and Burgundy formats; an additional ~78 bottles stack in the bulk section. Universal racking accommodates oversized bottles without modification.
  • Three CellarPro cooling unit options (1800QTL-ECX, 1800QT-ECX, 1800XT-ECX): Running amps range from 2.4 to 3.0A depending on the unit selected, with startup draw up to 20.1A. Selecting the right unit for your ambient conditions requires reviewing the linked thermal load calculator before ordering.
  • Adjustable humidity control with Energy-Saver and Quick-Chill modes: The digital controller lets you set both temperature and humidity targets independently — relevant for long-term aging where cork integrity depends on maintaining 50–70% RH.
  • Foil-backed polyisocyanurate insulation with sealed seams: Higher R-value than standard foam, combined with double-pane tinted glass, reduces thermal load on the cooling unit and limits UV exposure to the collection.
  • High-performance air filtration system with audible and visual alarms for temperature excursions.
  • Stainless bar pulls with security lock on both doors
  • Interior LED lighting (low heat output)
  • Optional bottle probe for internal temperature spot-checking
  • Warranty split: 5 years on the cooling unit, 2 years on the cabinet; optional extended warranty available at purchase.

What These Specs Mean

  • Running / Startup Amps: The startup (inrush) draw is many times higher than the steady-state running draw — your dedicated circuit must be sized to handle the peak startup load, not just the lower number shown for normal operation.
  • Compressor model options (1800QTL / 1800QT / 1800XT): These are three different CellarPro cooling unit configurations for this cabinet; the QTL draws the least current at startup and is the quietest option, while the QT and XT draw more current and are suited to higher ambient temperature environments.

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS

POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.

The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.

The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.

FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).

DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.

WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.

TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:

  • 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration:
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
    • If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
    • In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
    • The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
  • 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note:
    • Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
    • European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).

4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.

Can the 5200 Classic sit flush against a wall, or does it need rear clearance for the cooling unit?

A: The 5200 Classic uses Le Cache's SB/0™ Technology, which is specifically designed to allow flush-against-the-wall placement with zero rear clearance. Exhaust is routed through a top-vent rather than the back, so you can position it directly against a wall without compromising cooling performance — a meaningful advantage in a dining room, study or finished basement where you don't want a gap behind the cabinet.

What is the real bottle capacity, and will oversized bottles like Burgundy or large-format Bordeaux fit in the racks?

A: Total capacity is 622 bottles: 544 racked slots in a double-deep configuration with 3.8-inch spacing, plus approximately 78 bottles of bulk stacked storage. The universal all-wood interlock racking is designed to accommodate oversized bottles, so standard Burgundy and Napa Cabernet formats should fit without modification. The double-deep layout effectively doubles your usable wall space, which matters when you're managing a collection of 400–600 bottles.

What are the electrical requirements, and can it run on a standard household outlet?

A: The cabinet runs on 115V AC / 60 Hz, which is a standard North American outlet. Running amperage is low — 2.4A for the 1800QTL-ECX, 2.9A for the 1800QT-ECX and 3.0A for the 1800XT-ECX — so ongoing operating costs are modest. Startup (compressor) amperage is significantly higher, ranging from 14.2A to 20.1A depending on the unit selected, so a dedicated 20-amp circuit is worth considering to avoid nuisance trips during compressor start cycles.

How does the humidity control on this cabinet differ from a standard wine cooler or beverage refrigerator?

A: Wine coolers and beverage refrigerators are designed only for temperature management — they do not control humidity, and low humidity over months or years can dry out natural corks and compromise a wine's seal. The 5200 Classic includes adjustable humidity control through its CellarPro cooling unit, along with a digital thermostat and display so you can monitor and dial in both parameters. This is the functional difference between short-term chilling and genuine long-term aging storage.

What is the warranty structure, and what does it cover?

A: The 5200 Classic carries a 2-year warranty on the full cabinet and a separate 5-year warranty on the CellarPro cooling system. An optional extended warranty is also available for buyers who want longer coverage. The cooling unit is manufactured in the USA, which is relevant if you ever need service or parts down the line.

How loud is the 5200 Classic in a living space like a dining room or study?

A: Le Cache specifically highlights that the 5200 now ships with CellarPro's most advanced and quietest cooling units. The cabinet also includes an Energy-Saver mode that reduces how often the compressor cycles, which directly affects ambient noise. For placement in a dining room or office, the CellarPro 1800QTL-ECX variant draws the lowest running amperage (2.4A) and is the quietest of the three available cooling unit options. Detailed sound performance data is available through Le Cache's published cooling unit sound performance charts.

Great unit and service

Having a Le Cache unit in Las Vegas I knew how great they are. We left our unit in Las Vegas when we moved to Georgia and when we were to build out our wine area we knew exactly who to call . The delivery went without a problem and both units are now fully loaded and are doing quite well. Thanks for the great service and some of our friends have seen them and they are impressed by them. Looking to buy another one within 1 year

9/14/10:  The wine cabinet was delivered today. The cabinet was in excellent condition upon arrival. It was a tight fit getting in the outside door, only 31 ½ inches wide. The delivery crew from Mid-Atlantic were diligent and careful. The cabinet is elegant. I will begin loading tonight and wait the 48 hours before starting the cooler. It will be good to get my wine back into a cellar environment. I really appreciate all your help through the process!

Exceeded my Expectations

After reviewing many wine cabinets on the internet I called Le Cache. Ben explained the delivery and the features of CellarPro cooling unit. I had a potential difficult delivery through the walk out basement door in the back yard. I purchased the 5200 Classic Cherry cabinet. The delivery company was on time, professional and set up the cabinet quickly. Elegant cabinet and cooled my 400+ bottles in less than 2 days. I am extreamly pleased with the cabinet and the process. Through out the entire process Le Cache Exceeded My Expecations!! Recommend Le Cache over Any other.

The unit looks beautiful.

Just wanted to let you guys know that the cabinet showed up in excellent condition. There was a little concern whether it would fit through the arches leading to my back room. As it turned out it barely made it through , but it did and we did not have much trouble. Thanks for packing it so well. The unit looks beautiful. I will update you once I turn it on tomorrow. My wine comes from the storage facility on Friday. THANKS!
