FAQs
What makes the Riedel Black Tie Bliss Decanter different from other Riedel decanters?
A: The Black Tie Bliss stands apart through its sculptural design: a solid, clear heart molded into the body of the decanter and a black crystal accent along one side. Because it is mouth-blown by Riedel master glassmakers, no two pieces are identical — each one is a distinct object. Most Riedel decanters prioritize aeration function alone; the Black Tie Bliss is built to function and to be noticed on a table.
Does the Black Tie Bliss Decanter work for both young wines and older vintages?
A: Yes. The wide-based, rounded bowl shape promotes aeration, which allows young wines to open up and develop over 30–60 minutes. For older wines, the decanting process separates sediment and restores clarity and brilliance to the pour. It handles both tasks well, making it a versatile choice whether you are opening a recent Cabernet or a mature Burgundy.
How much wine does the Black Tie Bliss Decanter hold?
A: The decanter holds 43 ounces, which comfortably accommodates a standard 750ml bottle (approximately 25.4 oz) with significant room to spare for aeration. That extra volume in the bowl is intentional — it increases the wine's surface area exposure to air as it breathes.
Is the Black Tie Bliss made from lead-free crystal?
A: Yes. The decanter is mouth-blown from lead-free crystal by Riedel master glassmakers in Austria. The lead-free composition means you get the clarity and light-refraction of traditional crystal without the concerns associated with lead crystal, particularly for storing wine over extended periods.
How large is the Riedel Black Tie Bliss Decanter, and will it fit on a standard bar cart or shelf?
A: The decanter stands 14½ inches tall and weighs 3.8 lbs when empty. The elongated neck and curved spout give it a significant vertical presence, so measure your shelf height before placing it in a cabinet. On an open bar cart or dining sideboard it sits cleanly without crowding.
Is the Black Tie Bliss Decanter a good choice for gifting?
A: It is one of the stronger gifting options in the Riedel decanter range because the design has a clear visual signature — the heart motif and black crystal accent — that reads as intentional rather than generic. At 43 oz capacity and 14½ inches tall, it has presence on a table. Because each piece is handmade and mouth-blown, it carries the character of a one-of-a-kind object, which translates well when giving to a host or wine-enthusiast friend.

I purchased this as a valentine's gift for my husband. It is the perfect size and displays nicely. The " black tie" is a black stripe on the side.
Even better than the picture!

I purchased this to give as a gift for someone who has always said they find decanters pretentious. The heart design makes this a nice display piece while still serving its intended purpose in an approachable way. A couple of things to note: the heart area is not an opening - if is translucent but filled in. Another surprise is the lovely black stripe detail up one side, which looks more like a shadow in the photo.
