Jean Dubost Laguiole Flatware Black #19077
Details
A dinner table already tells guests something about the host — and flatware that is genuinely hand-made in France, rather than simply branded that way, tells the right story without announcing itself. This 24-piece set from Jean Dubost brings authentic Laguiole character to the table: black acrylic handles set against polished stainless steel, a combination that looks clean and considered from the first course through dessert. The fitted wood tray it arrives in makes it as easy to give as it is to store.
Best For
- Setting a table for six where the flatware needs to hold up through a multi-course dinner without fussing over hand-washing
- Giving as a wedding gift when you want something complete, well-made and French that won’t collect dust in a cabinet
- Hosting a dinner where the place setting should look intentional but not overly formal
- Replacing a mismatched flatware drawer with a full 24-piece set that stores neatly in its own tray
Features
- Two steel grades, each matched to its job: Knife blades are AISI 420 stainless, a harder alloy that holds a sharper edge through repeated use. Forks, spoons and teaspoons use AISI 430, which resists corrosion and polishes to a lasting mirror finish.
- Acrylic handles instead of natural materials: Unlike horn, bone or wood handles, the black acrylic won't absorb moisture, crack with temperature changes or require hand-washing only. The color stays uniform over years of use and repeated dishwasher cycles.
- Traditional Laguiole bolster and bee detail: The decorative bee at the junction of handle and blade is a hallmark of authentic Laguiole production — visible in the polished stainless fittings on each piece.
- Wood tray included: Keeps all 24 pieces organized in separate compartments. Works as a drawer insert for daily use or as-is for gift presentation — no additional packaging needed.
- Complete place settings for 6 — one knife, fork, dinner spoon and teaspoon per seat, with no pieces left out.
- Piece lengths: knife 9", fork and dinner spoon 8 1/4", teaspoon 5 9/10" — proportioned for a full dinner service, not a steak-knife-only set.
- Dishwasher safe.

FAQs
What exactly comes in this 24-piece set, and how many people does it serve?
A: The set serves 6 people completely and includes 6 knives, 6 forks, 6 dinner spoons and 6 teaspoons — everything needed for a full place setting at the table. All 24 pieces arrive organized in a wood storage tray (8 3/8” wide x 13” deep x 1 1/2” tall) that doubles as a drawer insert or display piece.
Are the black handles durable, or will they chip or fade over time?
A: The handles are made from black-colored acrylic, which is dense and resistant to cracking, chipping and discoloration. Unlike horn or wood handles that can dry out or stain, acrylic maintains its appearance through regular use. The three rivets you can see in each handle are a signature detail of the Laguiole design and also reinforce the handle-to-blade connection.
What grade of stainless steel is used, and does it differ between pieces?
A: Yes — the steel grade is matched to the function of each piece. Knives use AISI 420 stainless steel, a harder alloy chosen specifically because it holds a sharper edge for cutting. Forks, spoons and teaspoons use AISI 430 stainless steel, which is slightly softer but more corrosion-resistant and better suited for pieces that don’t require a blade edge. Blades are polished to 1.5 mm thickness.
Is this set dishwasher safe?
A: Yes, the full set is dishwasher safe. The acrylic handles hold up to repeated machine washing without warping or delaminating, which makes this set a practical choice for regular entertaining rather than a display-only purchase.
Is this set gift-ready, and what does the presentation look like?
A: The set ships in a natural wood tray with divided compartments for each utensil type — knives, forks, spoons and teaspoons each sit in their own section. It arrives presentation-ready without any additional wrapping needed, which makes it a strong option as a wedding or housewarming gift. The black handles against the pale wood tray read as intentional rather than utilitarian.

This flatware is well made, looks great , and better than what I anticipated
Normal, not typical “super size” flatware

The flatware is pretty. I agree with previous review that it is lighter in nature, but I actually don’t like super heavy silverware. The silverware is made from quality materials, and for me, the key was a strong and effective knife. The teaspoon is actually the right size. We are so used to everything super sized in our world, we forget ‘normal’ /original sizing.
It looks great but......

I have been debating this purchase for some time & felt the IWA price was the best I had seen. I so wanted to love this flatware but I was disappointed. The teaspoon is way too small and the flatware itself is light and seems like a knockoff. I think Laguiole must make several versions of their flatware and this is at the low end. I like the looks of it but would not purchase again.
Dishwasher proof?

I have some of these, steak knives, with wooden handles. They cannot go in the dishwasher but I notice these are acrylic, does anyone know if they are dishwasher safe and can be used daily?
