Transtherm Ermitage Glass Black Full Shelf #17035
When a collection outgrows a closet conversion or a basic cooler, the Transtherm Ermitage is the kind of cabinet that meets it seriously. Made in France by Eurocave, this 182-bottle unit holds a single temperature zone at 43–64°F with a maximum internal variation of 2–3°F — tight enough for long-term cellaring of Bordeaux and Burgundy alike. What separates it from most freestanding cabinets is the integrated heating element, which means it can run in an unconditioned garage, basement or second-home cellar anywhere ambient temperatures stay between 32 and 95°F without missing a beat.
The fully shelved configuration ships with 14 adjustable rolling shelves and one bottom half shelf, filling every slot. Each rolling shelf rides on low-profile grooves that accommodate standard Bordeaux bottles as easily as wider Burgundy and Champagne formats, and shelf height is adjustable for mixed collections. The compressor is mechanically isolated from the cabinet body, keeping vibration off the bottles and operation down to 37 dBA — quiet enough for a dining room or finished basement. A thermal pump unique to Transtherm recycles condensation internally and maintains humidity between 55% and 80%, so corks stay in good condition over the long haul without any fuss.
Best For
- Transitioning a 100–200 bottle collection out of a kitchen cooler into a dedicated, cellar-condition environment
- Installing in an unconditioned space like a garage or basement where ambient temperatures swing seasonally
- Storing a mixed cellar of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne that requires shelf flexibility for varying bottle diameters
- Placing in a dining room or living space where compressor noise and vibration are real concerns
- Heating and cooling in a single unit: Unlike most wine cabinets that only cool, the Ermitage includes an integrated heating element rated for ambient environments from 32 to 95°F. This matters if you’re placing the cabinet in an unconditioned garage, unfinished basement or seasonal property.
- Temperature variation held to ±2–3°F: The electronic regulation system maintains tight internal stability rather than cycling broadly — directly relevant if you’re cellaring Bordeaux or Burgundy long-term where temperature swings accelerate aging.
- Compressors decoupled from the cabinet body: Slow, balanced compressors are mechanically isolated from the cabinet frame. This eliminates the micro-vibrations that can disturb sediment and affect wines stored over years, not just months.
- Thermal pump humidity control (Transtherm exclusive): The system recycles condensation internally to hold humidity between 55% and 80% RH. Natural ventilation runs alongside it to prevent mold and off-odors without requiring filters.
- Adjustable rolling shelves with low-profile grooves: All 14 shelves roll out for access and are height-adjustable. The grooved surface seats Bordeaux, Burgundy and other bottle profiles without adapters or reconfigurations — practical for a mixed collection.
- Aluminum interior: The cabinet’s inner lining has been upgraded from thermoformed polystyrene to aluminum, improving thermal consistency and long-term durability. Insulation is 4.5cm high-density expanded foam throughout the walls.
- Rated at 37 dBA — suitable for placement in living spaces, dining rooms or open-plan areas
- Temperature and humidity alarms, integrated multi-mode lighting control and a removable reversible door handle (steel and aluminum)
- Manufactured in France by Eurocave; single temperature zone set between 43 and 64°F

What These Specs Mean
- 15-Amp Dedicated Circuit: The cabinet draws enough sustained current that it cannot share a breaker with other appliances; a dedicated circuit prevents tripped breakers and ensures stable, uninterrupted operation.
- 5-Year Compressor Warranty: The compressor is the core of the cooling system and the costliest component to replace; the extended coverage on it beyond the standard 1-year parts-and-labor warranty limits long-term repair exposure.
Can the Transtherm Ermitage be placed in an unconditioned garage or basement?
A: Yes. The Ermitage is equipped with both a compressor for cooling and an integrated heating element, which is a Transtherm exclusive. This allows the cabinet to operate in ambient environments ranging from 32°F to 95°F (0–35°C) — meaning it will hold target temperature whether the surrounding space is a cold unfinished basement in winter or a warm garage in summer. Most competing wine cabinets cool only; the Ermitage heats as well, making it genuinely suitable for unconditioned placement.
What is the real-world bottle capacity, and how are the shelves configured?
A: As configured, the Ermitage holds 182 bottles. That breaks down to 14 adjustable rolling shelves at 12 bottles each, plus 1 half shelf at the bottom. Shelves are adjustable in height, and the low-profile grooves on each rolling shelf are designed to seat bottles of varying diameters — so you can mix Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne shapes across different rows without reconfiguring the entire cabinet.
How quiet is this cabinet — can it realistically be used in a dining room or living space?
A: The Ermitage operates at 37 dBA, which is quieter than a typical conversation and comparable to a library ambient level. Vibration is further minimized through slow, balanced compressors that are mechanically decoupled from the cabinet body — the compressor does not transfer vibration through the frame. This makes it a sound choice for a dining room, living area or any space where noise and vibration sensitivity matters.
What are the electrical requirements, and does this need a dedicated circuit?
A: The Ermitage runs on 120V / 60Hz and requires a 15-Amp dedicated circuit. It cannot share a circuit with other appliances. If you are placing two units side by side or in a double configuration, each cabinet requires its own dedicated 15-Amp circuit. Plan for this during any remodel or new installation — a standard kitchen outlet is not sufficient.
How precisely does the Ermitage control temperature, and what is the storage range?
A: The electronic temperature regulation system maintains a maximum internal variation of 2–3°F from your set point. The single-zone cabinet holds temperatures between 43°F and 64°F with humidity maintained between 55% and 80% RH via a thermal pump that recycles condensation. You can also manually increase humidity by adding water to the system. This range covers long-term cellaring of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhône at proper aging conditions.
What does the warranty cover, and how long is it?
A: The Ermitage carries a 1-year limited warranty covering parts and labor, plus a separate 5-year limited warranty on the compressor. The compressor coverage is the more consequential of the two for long-term reliability, as compressor replacement on a cabinet of this class is the primary potential cost exposure after the first year.

Everything A-1
This is a fine appliance, well made, handsome, and up to the task. I had numerous cases of wine moved from a prior residence and loaded the appliance immediately. It cooled to the desired temperature within hours, even though fully loaded. I have had previous experience with a Sub Zero, built into the kitchen cabinets and the performance of this unit is comparable, albeit much less pricey. Although this appliance is placed in the garage, I wanted it to look good, and it does. The ordering, tracking, and delivery were exceptionally easy and quick. The delivery men knew this product and how to unpack, place, and level the appliance. I could not be more pleased.

Elegant, Ideal, and in a Class of their Own!!!
My experiences and expectations we 100% blown away by the knowledgeable & friendly staff via telephone and in-person. Never once did I feel under-pressure or in a situation where I felt uneasy or uncomfortable. To the contrary, IWA worked with me to see what was my need and how to best suit/tailor/fit to it. Ultimately, I went with pricier selection but I have had zero doubts and never once experienced buyer's remorse! I truly love my Transtherm Ermitage and am very satisfied with this long-term investment. I thank everyone at IWA for such a pleasant and gratifying buying experience. I would definitely recommend and buy from your team again! Cheers

Fabulous Product, Fabulous Company
From the moment I first walked into this business I was treated with intelligence and respect. It is obvious that the owners are not only working hard to provide good products and service, but having a lot of fun doing it. They patiently worked with us as we dithered this way and that in selecting what matched our needs. In the end, a few features made this make and model stand out despite the higher cost: reputation of design and manufacture, quiet, adjustable shelving. It was a no-brainer to add the modestly-priced extended warranty. It now sits in our living room, I daresay rather elegantly, occasionally cycling on but almost never audible; the pull-out shelves make selection easy, even fun. The electronic display assures that storage tolerances are met. The sun may shine brightly into the room, the house may be cold in the winter and hot in the summer, but I am confident those special purchases we have placed carefully inside are only getting better.
