Le Cache Contemp 2400 Classic #734
The Le Cache Contemporary 2400 Classic provides a dedicated environment for aging a substantial collection within a footprint designed for modern living spaces. This cabinet combines a high-capacity interior with a cherry wood exterior and arched windows that allow for a clear view of bottles while maintaining strict climate control. It is a practical solution for collectors who have outgrown smaller coolers and require the precision of a professional-grade cooling system.
Best For
- Storing a mix of standard and oversized bottles in universal all-wood racking
- Placing a high-capacity unit flush against a wall in a dining room or finished basement
- Maintaining stable humidity and temperature levels for long-term aging of Bordeaux and Burgundy
- Monitoring cellar conditions through digital displays and audible alarms
- SB/0™ Zero-Clearance Technology: The cabinet exhausts entirely through a top vent, allowing it to sit flush against the wall with no rear clearance required. This is a meaningful distinction for finished dining rooms or built-in installations where standard rear-exhaust units cannot be placed.
- CellarPro cooling unit (made in USA) with three configurations: The 1800QTL-ECX, 1800QT-ECX and 1800XT-ECX all run on standard 115V AC / 60 Hz. Running draw starts at 2.4 amps on the QTL model, relevant if you’re planning a dedicated circuit or assessing load on an existing one.
- Active humidity control (not passive): The system monitors and adjusts humidity — not just temperature. This protects cork integrity during multi-year aging in ways that beverage coolers and standard refrigerators cannot.
- Energy-Saver and Quick-Chill modes: Energy-Saver reduces operating costs during periods of infrequent access; Quick-Chill drops internal temperature rapidly after loading warm bottles. Both are controlled via the front-mounted electronic thermostat with digital display.
- Universal all-wood interlock racks with 3.8-inch slots: Accommodates oversized Burgundy and Champagne bottles without modification. Double-deep configuration delivers 256 racked slots plus bulk space for approximately 30 additional bottles within a 39" W × 29" D × 82" H footprint.
- High Performance Air Filtration System: Filters airborne contaminants that can affect wine character over extended aging — not a feature found on standard coolers.
- Audible and visual alarms for temperature and humidity excursions.
- Optional bottle probe available for direct bottle-temperature monitoring rather than ambient air readings only.

PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS
POWER REQUIREMENT:
The power cord extends 6 1/2 feet from the rear of the cabinet. If an extension cord is used, it should be 14-gauge wire or thicker, grounded, and as short as possible.
The cooling unit plugs into a standard grounded wall outlet. We recommend adding a surge protector, rated at 15 amps or more (for example, click here), to protect the cooling unit from power surges.
The outlet must be on a dedicated circuit. The components of the cooling unit draw 3 amps, and the electric outlet on the side of the cooling unit also is rated for 3 amps. The cooling unit should not, under any circumstances, share a circuit with another motor or compressor-based appliance, like a wine cooler, fridge, air conditioner, or garage opener.
FLOOR SURFACE
Because of the significant weight of your wine cabinet, it is important that it be placed on a hard surface; otherwise, the cabinet may become skewed if the doors settle unevenly over time. If you will be placing your cabinet on thick carpeting, consider placing a carpet board underneath the wine cabinet. You can purchase a carpet board from Le Cache, or you can have your local hardware store cut a 3/4 inch plywood board to the following dimensions: 45w x 25d (inches).
DOOR SWING CLEARANCE
The doors of our wine cabinets swing wide by approximately 1 inch when open at 90 degrees. The additional width should be accounted for when purchasing cabinets that do not have moldings because the stated widths of our wine cabinets do not account for the door swing. Please note that the additional width is required in front of the cabinet.
WEIGHT LOAD FACTOR
After loading your wine cabinet with wine bottles, it will be extremely heavy. When selecting a location for your cabinet, make sure that the floor underneath is strong enough to support the weight of the cabinet.
TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
CellarPro cooling units are designed to handle temperatures ranging from 50 to 95F.
VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS
The cooling unit generates hot air that must be exhausted in such a way that it won't be recirculated by the cooling unit. If the hot air cannot be dissipated or channeled properly, and the cooling unit is forced to recycle its own hot air, the cooling unit will be unable to maintain cold temperatures inside the wine cabinet and/or will overheat and/or will run all the time. Proper ventilation can be achieved in one of three ways:
- 1. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH TOP-VENT CONFIGURATIONS
Our upright wine cabinets have been engineered with top-vent cooling units and SB/0 Technology so that they can be placed right up against the wall. In this configuration, the hot air generated by the cooling unit is ventilated through the top of the wine cabinet, and the return air comes from above the wine cabinet, so there must be clearance above and to the sides of the cabinets for the hot air to dissipate, as follows: - Contemporary wine cabinets, Carolina wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets, Vault wine cabinets and a Semi-Custom wine cabinets require 18 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
- European Country wine cabinets and Mission wine cabinets require 12 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet.
- The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
- 2. UPRIGHT CABINETS WITH Rear-Vent Configurations
Our upright wine cabinets can be configured so that the return air comes from behind the wine cabinet. This configuration is useful in situations where sufficient clearance around the wine cabinet doesn't exist. In this configuration: - If the rear of the wine cabinet is not accessible, a minimum clearance of 7 1/2 inches above the wine cabinet is required for removal and replacement of the cooling unit air filter.
- If the rear of the wine cabinet is accessible, a minimum clearance of 3 inches above the wine cabinet is required for proper airflow, and we recommend using our air deflector to direct the hot air exhaust to the left of the wine cabinet.
- In all cases, the wine cabinet must be placed 3-4 inches away from the rear wall.
- The sides always need to be open - in other words, placement in a corner, enclosed space, alcove, or closet will not work without our front-vent hood (see Configuration 3 below).
- 3. UPRIGHT CABINETS with Front-Vent Hoods
If you want to place the wine cabinet flush against the wall but you don't have the required clearance (as outlined in Configuration 1 above), or you want to place the wine cabinet in an enclosed space, closet, or alcove, our front-vent hood (placed on top of the wine cabinet) can be used with 7 1/2 inches of clearance above the wine cabinet for removal of the hood and the air filter. Please note: - Contemporary wine cabinets, Loft wine cabinets and Vault wine cabinets can use our front vent hood with OR without the decorative grill.
- European Country wine cabinets, Mission wine cabinets and Carolina wine cabinets can use our front vent hood without the decorative grill (the decorative grill will not fit with crown moldings).
4. CREDENZA WINE CABINETS
Credenza wine cabinets don't require any clearance above the wine cabinet; however, all credenzas require 3-4 inches of space behind the wine cabinet because all the ventilation (intake and exhaust) occurs behind the cabinet.

Please note:
(1) We count the top of the racks as 1 row when counting rows in our racks.
(2) Every slot in the racks is 3 3/4" and sized to fit oversized Burgundy and most Champagne-size bottles.
(3) Bulk storage is located atop the racks (except for the first row atop the racks). Bulk storage capacity is based on Bordeaux-size bottles.
(4) Total capacity is the sum of racked plus bulk capacity, with double-deep storage in all cases except the Contemporary Credenza (which is single-deep). Usable capacity may be lower by 2-3 bottles when the first few cells under the cooling unit are left empty for proper air circulation.
Is the Le Cache 2400 Classic freestanding, or can it be placed flush against a wall?
A: It is freestanding but designed with Le Cache's SB/0™ Technology, which means the cabinet exhausts heat through a top-vent rather than the rear. This allows it to sit completely flush against a wall with no clearance gap behind it — a meaningful advantage in a dining room or finished basement where you don't want a gap between the cabinet and the wall. You do need overhead clearance for the top vent to function properly.
Will it store oversized bottles like Burgundy, large-format Bordeaux or Champagne?
A: Yes. The all-wood interlock racks use 3.8-inch slots and are specifically described as universal racking that accommodates oversized bottles. The 256 racked slots can handle standard Bordeaux as well as wider Burgundy and Champagne bottles. An additional ~30 bottles can be stored in bulk-stacked space, which is also useful for magnums or irregular formats that don't fit standard slots.
What are the electrical requirements, and can it run on a standard household circuit?
A: The cabinet runs on 115V AC / 60 Hz — standard US household current. Running amp draw depends on which CellarPro cooling unit is installed: the 1800QTL-ECX draws 2.4A running / 14.2A startup, the 1800QT-ECX draws 2.9A running / 20.1A startup, and the 1800XT-ECX draws 3.0A running / 20.1A startup. The high startup amps on the QT and XT models mean a dedicated 20A circuit is strongly recommended to avoid tripping a shared breaker.
How does this cabinet manage humidity, and why does that matter for long-term aging?
A: The 2400 Classic includes an adjustable humidity control system integrated with the CellarPro cooling unit. Standard wine coolers and refrigerators only regulate temperature — they strip moisture from the air in the process, which dries out corks over time and accelerates oxidation. This cabinet actively maintains humidity alongside temperature, making it a true long-term aging environment rather than just a chilled display unit. It is purpose-built for collectors who are holding wine for years or decades, not just serving at temperature.
What is the warranty coverage, and what does it actually include?
A: The cabinet carries a 2-year full cabinet warranty and a separate 5-year warranty on the CellarPro cooling unit. An optional extended warranty is also available. The cooling unit warranty is notably longer than the cabinet warranty because the compressor-based refrigeration system is the most mechanically complex component and the costliest to service. Knowing the cooling unit is covered for five years is relevant if you're placing this in a second home or location you don't monitor daily.
How loud is the 2400 Classic in a living space or dining room?
A: Le Cache describes the current generation as featuring the most advanced and quietest CellarPro cooling units available. The 1800QTL-ECX variant has the lowest running amp draw (2.4A) and is the quietest of the three cooling unit options. Sound performance data is available through Le Cache's published cooling unit sound performance documentation. If low noise in a living or dining space is a priority, selecting the QTL cooling unit configuration is the right call.
