Laguiole Carving Set Ivory by Jean Dubost #27114
Details
When a roast comes to the table, the tools that carve it say something about the host. This two-piece set from Jean Dubost — a knife and fork handmade in France in the Laguiole tradition — has the kind of quiet authority that earns attention without asking for it. The ivory acrylic handles with their polished spine and warm gold-tone bolsters look considered against any table linen, and the set arrives in a natural wood box that needs no extra wrapping.
Best For
- Carving a roast or leg of lamb at a dinner party where presentation matters as much as the meal
- Giving as a housewarming or wedding gift that looks as good in the box as it does in use
- Hosting a holiday table where you want the carving moment to feel unhurried and a little ceremonial
- Replacing a mismatched carving set with something that will last long enough to pass on
Features
- Two steel grades, matched to each piece: The knife uses AISI 420 stainless steel, a higher-carbon alloy that holds a sharper cutting edge. The fork is AISI 430, which prioritizes corrosion resistance. Most sets use a single grade across both pieces.
- Handles molded over the full metal spine: The ivory acrylic is formed over the spine rather than attached as side panels. This construction prevents the loosening and cracking that can develop in riveted handle sets over time.
- Gold-tone bolsters with the traditional Laguiole bee emblem on each piece — visible and consistent across both the knife and fork.
- Polished finish on the handle spine, contrasting the matte ivory acrylic face.
- Overall length of 11½ inches — proportioned for carving a roast or whole bird at the table, not a general-purpose kitchen knife.
- Dishwasher safe despite the handmade construction.
- Fitted natural pine box with routed slots: Each piece sits in its own formed recess. The box arrives presentation-ready and closes flat — no additional gift wrapping required.

FAQs
What’s included in this carving set?
A: The set includes two pieces — a carving knife and a carving fork — along with a wood storage box. The box makes it ready to gift without additional wrapping, and keeps the set protected when not in use.
What are the handles made of, and will they hold up over time?
A: The handles are ivory-colored acrylic fitted over a polished stainless steel spine, which gives them their durability. The acrylic sits flush over the metal backbone, so the handle won’t crack, warp or loosen with regular use the way natural materials sometimes can.
Is this carving set dishwasher safe?
A: Yes, the set is dishwasher safe. The stainless steel blades (AISI 420 on the knife, AISI 430 on the fork) and the acrylic handles are both rated for machine washing, so there’s no hand-wash-only upkeep to worry about.
Is this actually made in France, or just branded as Laguiole?
A: This set is handmade in France by Jean Dubost, a manufacturer based in Thiers — the historic capital of French cutlery. The “Laguiole” name is not a protected designation, so many sets sold under that label are made elsewhere; Jean Dubost’s French origin is confirmed and stamped on the blade.
How large are the knife and fork — are they full carving size?
A: Yes. The set measures 11½ inches long, which is standard full carving length. That gives you the reach and leverage needed for a roast, leg of lamb or whole bird without the pieces feeling short or unwieldy.
Is this a good wedding or housewarming gift?
A: It checks the key boxes for a considered gift: handmade in France, presented in a wood box, and useful enough to reach for at every holiday table. At $55, it sits at a price point that reads thoughtful without feeling extravagant, and the ivory-and-gold colorway works with both traditional and contemporary table settings.

Beautiful Laguiole carving set!

I was looking for a Jean Dubost Laguiole carving set in ivory to match a steak knife set that I recently acquired. This set is lovely and is the genuine article from France. The caps are in brass, not silver tone, a piece of information not included inthe item description.
Well known brand
