Eisch Duck Decanter #24416
When the table needs something that earns a second look before the first pour, this Eisch Duck Decanter does both jobs at once. Its horizontal form — mouth-blown from lead-free European crystal — lays the wine nearly flat, which means maximum surface exposure and genuine aeration rather than the decorative kind. The circular negative space cut through the body isn’t just a design choice; it gives you a secure, natural grip when pouring from a shape that might otherwise feel precarious.
Best For
- Decanting a tannic Cabernet or Syrah an hour before guests sit down, then leaving it on the table where it will be noticed
- Giving to a host who has everything — this reads as considered rather than generic, and holds up long after the occasion
- A dinner table where the decanter stays out through the meal and needs to pour cleanly without ceremony
- Anyone building a small collection of pieces that are functional first and beautiful second — not the other way around
- Horizontal duck silhouette maximizes aeration: Laying the wine nearly flat across a wide, shallow chamber exposes significantly more surface area to air than an upright decanter of the same volume — particularly effective for young, tannic reds that need time to open.
- Circular cutout as a functional grip: The negative-space opening isn't just a design element — it gives your hand a secure hold when pouring, which matters with a 27-ounce fill and an extended spout.
- Mouth-blown lead-free crystal: Each piece is individually formed, so there is slight natural variation. Lead-free means no off-flavors transfer to wine and no concerns about long-term use.
- Holds 27 ounces — enough for a standard 750ml bottle with a small margin
- Footprint: 13" wide × 4¾" deep × 8½" tall — plan for roughly a foot of horizontal table space
- Made in Europe by Eisch, a German glassmaker with decades of mouth-blown crystal production
Pairs Well With
- A flexible-stem decanter cleaning brush — the horizontal body and narrow spout of this shape are difficult to clean without one

How does the horizontal duck shape actually improve aeration compared to a standard upright decanter?
A: Because the decanter lays horizontally, the wine spreads across a much wider surface area than it would sitting in a tall, narrow vessel. More wine exposed to air means faster, more even oxygenation — tannins soften and aromas open up more quickly. The flat, wide-billed pour spout also introduces additional air as the wine flows out, giving you a double dose of aeration with every pour.
Will a standard 750ml bottle of wine fit in the Eisch Duck Decanter?
A: Yes. The decanter holds 27 ounces, and a standard 750ml bottle is approximately 25.4 ounces, so a full bottle fits with a small amount of headroom. It is not sized for magnum pours — this is a single-bottle decanter.
Is this decanter hand-blown, and does that affect how it looks up close?
A: Yes — the Eisch Duck Decanter is mouth-blown from lead-free crystal, made in Europe. Mouth-blown crystal has a slightly organic quality that machine-pressed glass lacks: walls with subtle variation in thickness, a brilliance that catches light naturally, and edges that feel considered rather than stamped out. Lead-free means you get the clarity and ring of traditional crystal without any health concerns.
What are the dimensions, and how does the negative space cutout work as a handle?
A: The decanter measures 13 inches wide, 4¾ inches deep and 8½ inches tall and weighs 3.8 lbs when empty. The circular opening cut through the body is not purely decorative — it gives you a natural, secure grip point for pouring from a vessel that would otherwise be awkward to control at that width. It also lightens the visual weight of the piece considerably.
How does the Eisch Duck Decanter differ from other sculptural decanters like swan or mamba styles?
A: Most sculptural decanters — swan necks, coiled mambas — are vertical by design and aerate primarily through a narrow neck. The Eisch Duck sits fully horizontal, which is a functional distinction: the entire body of wine is in contact with air at once rather than just the surface at the top. The negative space handle is also a practical feature you do not find on most art-forward decanters, which tend to prioritize look over pourability.

My favorite duck decanter
Of all the styles of duck decanter, this one is my absolute favorite. The no-drip feature is also excellent. Only thing you must be careful of is to not bump the lip of the pouring spout against something. That is almost guaranteed to cause a chip or a slight fracture in the edge of the glass, because it is rather thin there.

Elegant and Artistic Decanter at a Reasonable Price
I purchased the Eisch Duck decanter for its elegance, artistic design, and reasonable price. I now have experienced the ease of pouring wine with this decanter, minimal to no dripping, and ease of cleaning. I highly recommend it.
