This board is food safe. There are no chemicals used in making this board. Each board is made from thermal ash, roasted in the kiln until they are rich and chocolatey brown. They will have a scent like woodsmoke or tobacco due to the charring process throughout the entire board which makes it a little more porous. After roasting, each board is treated with butcher block oil which extends the life of the board and helps to avoid cracking. (Any residue is the oil and the dark wood combined). Our butcher block oil has no chemicals and is all natural.

Care Instructions
After use, the cutting board should be cleaned with hot, mild soapy water. It should not be soaked in water, because this may cause the board to crack and warp. Periodically, the board should be oiled with a food-safe mineral oil to keep it from cracking. Make sure the board is completely clean and dry before oiling, and use a clean soft cloth or paper towel to apply. Let it soak in, then wipe off the excess.

Beautiful Board
The personalized serving board came out very nice. The wood is beautiful and it will hold a lot of food, as it is quite large. Looking forward to using it!

Beware of misspelled names.
The board itself is beautiful. I loved the color and size, but it came with the name misspelled. I called but have not heard back from the company that made it.

Elegant as well as useful
This is such an rich, elegant AND useful gift. The choice of fonts was really surprising for the personalization! It’s fun to display in a grouping on the back of my counter!

Can't recommend this product
I wish I had read the other reviews before I ordered this item. The plank IS NOT the color in the picture, the stain is VERY DARK and you can't see the engraving very well. I too bought this as a gift for someone and am very disappointed. I cannot recommend this product. IWA should change the picture to a more realistic one.
