CellarPro Cooling Systems - Expected Useful Life

At CellarPro, we continuously improve our cooling systems by incorporating new technologies, field insights, customer feedback and internal R&D.

Our goal is to build reliable units that last and to keep making them better over time. Most of our units include a standard warranty that covers the entire system for 2 years and the compressor for 5 years. We also offer extended warranties that expand on this coverage.

While the standard warranty provides protection for up to 5 years, your cooling unit can last significantly longer with proper installation and maintenance. Users should review the following recommendations and apply the best practices to maximize the life of their unit:

  • Cellar Construction: The most common cause of failure is persistent moisture inside the cooling unit and on the evaporator coils, which leads to component damage and formicary corrosion that will cause refrigerant loss and premature system failure. Recommendation: Ensure your cellar is airtight by installing a vapor barrier and sealing all gaps. If you notice ongoing condensation, use Evap Fresh to help protect the coils.
  • Sizing: If the cooling unit is undersized for the cellar, it will run continuously and won't get the opportunity to cool off. This will lead to the premature failure of the fans and the compressor from overheating and stress. Recommendation: Use our sizing tool to select a cooling unit that is properly sized for your cellar.
  • Power Supply: Dirty or unstable power can damage the electronics in your cooling unit. Recommendation: Ask your local utility for guidance on improving power quality. Follow our electrical requirements for the circuit type and size. All units should be installed with a surge protector.
  • Setup: Each unit has specific setup requirements that, if not followed, can impact performance and longevity. For example:
  1. Houdini units must use the provided liquid bottle probe, with the bottle placed in a location with good airflow, and the HY parameter must be changed to "1" whenever the liquid bottle probe is used.
  2. Split systems require the compressor heater to be powered “on” independently from the cooling unit. Their startup delay should be changed to 30 once the installation is completed, and they must be charged according to the instructions in the owner's manual.
  • Maintenance: Our units require minimal maintenance, but neglecting it can shorten their life. Recommendations:
  1. Keep the coils clean.
  2. If you're using our filters, replace the fiberglass filters or clean the aluminum filters regularly
  3. Never use off-the-shelf filters, which can restrict the airflow and cause damage to the cooling unit.
  4. Inspect and clean the drain line to prevent mold. If mold persists, spraying Evap Fresh on the coils

Following these guidelines will help maximize the performance and longevity of your CellarPro cooling system.
