Spiegalau Stemmed Pilsner

by tom
these tulip glasses inititally look like they might be brandy snifters. but they are 100% beer glasses. i use them especally for Sierra Nevada Ruthless Ale which is a rye based mid-hoppy medium bodied ale. The glasses and the beer are a match made in heaven. The glasses allow the nose and the flavor of the beer to come forward. the glasses are aesthetically attractive. the glass is thin and wears well on the drinker's lips. i have been buying them for gifts for beer drinker family and friends.

The tulip-shaped glass works well for all types of beer. If you only going to have one kind of beer glasses, have these. Even if you plan to have multiple types of beer glasses, get these first.

The glasses are well made, the crystal is clear, thin rims make them a pleasure to use. IWA packaging is commendable.

An addendum to my review from 9/4/2014:

I ordered another box, and 3 out of 4 glasses were defective. One had a very noticeable glass burr on the stem, the other 2 had identical notches on the rim, as if the rim-cutting apparatus was set askew. It's possible that I hit a VERY TINY chance of getting a box with 3/4 defective items; it's also possible that Spiegelau's production line for this model is getting worn out, as evidenced by 2 glasses having identical defects.

IWA refunded me everything, including shipping to me; but I still had to cover return shipping. Moreover, I ordered them for a Thanksgiving party and they turned out unusable. Quite a disappointment.
